The Dr. Marian A. Swope Counseling Center is staffed by three full-time and one part-time, licensed mental health professionals; six part-time doctoral practicum therapists; two part-time master's practicum therapists; a case manager; and a social work practicum student.

Marlana is a licensed psychologist and joined the Swope Counseling Center team in January 2020. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2013 from Spalding University and her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Shawnee State University (2007). Marlana comes from a generalist training program in which she was trained to work with a variety of different clients in many different settings. While in graduate school, Marlana was a practicum student at Å©·òµ¼º½ (2011-2012). Marlana’s pre-doctoral internship was at the Southern Louisiana Internship Consortium, where her major rotation was at Louisiana State University’s counseling center (2012-2013). Upon earning her doctorate, Marlana spent the first 6 years of her career working at the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women, where she was the program administrator of a co-occurring disorders program. This experience shaped her interests, but she remained passionate about working with students in higher education. Her areas of interest include trauma; gender issues; eating concerns; multicultural and LGBT issues; substance abuse and other addictive and self-destructive behaviors.
When she’s not in the Counseling Center, Marlana enjoys making memories with her family and friends, trying new restaurants, spending time outdoors, listening to music, reading, and cheering on the Bengals (Who Dey!).

Brianna Roberson, M.A. Ed., LPCC
Staff Counselor

Brianna is a licensed processional clinical counselor and joined the Swope Counseling Center team in June 2023. She earned her master’s degree in Counseling in 2021 and bachelors in Psychology in 2017 both at Western Kentucky University. Brianna has always had the desire to work with individuals improving their self-awareness, interpersonal relationships and cultural understanding. Post graduate school Brianna worked in Outpatient Treatment for substance abuse with a diverse population assessing co-occurring disorders, trauma and relationship dynamics. Brianna’s areas of interest include mental health, multicultural and LBGTQ issues, substance abuse, trauma and expressive therapy.
In Brianna’s free time she enjoys going to hot yoga, jamming out to Drake and Summer Walker, trying new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends.
Abbie Bordewyk, M.Ed. LPA
Staff Counselor

Abbie is a licensed psychological associate and a current doctoral candidate in the
University of Louisville's counseling psychology Ph.D. program. She earned her Master
of Education (M.Ed.) degree in counseling and personnel services from the University
of Louisville (2020) as well as Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology and English
from Augustana University (SD; 2018).
Abbie joined the Swope Counseling Center in August 2021; first as a practicum therapist
through December 2022 and then then as a part-time staff counselor in January 2023.
She specializes in working with student-athletes but enjoys work with all BU students,
striving to walk alongside as clients discover the values that drive what healing
and holistic well-being means to them. Abbie's areas of interest include anxiety &
mood disorders, academic success/ADHD, trauma, disordered eating, and multicultural,
identity, & systemic topics/issues.
Her hobbies include playing sand volleyball, listening to music, playing the violin, playing video games, spending time outside, watching sports, and spending time with her family (especially her husband and her dog).
Training Program 2026-27
The Å©·òµ¼º½ Counseling Center provides training to doctoral and master’s graduate students. Our practicum therapists come from various backgrounds and training programs. Our currents students are from the following programs: Å©·òµ¼º½ (Master's in Clinical Psychology), Spalding University (School of Professional Psychology) , and the University of Louisville (Counseling Psychology). Practicum therapists are supervised by the Counseling Center licensed staff members.
Practicum therapists serve the Å©·òµ¼º½ campus community by providing individual and group therapeutic services, psychological assessments, liaison relationships to campus organizations, and general outreach programming. We are pleased to have the following practicum therapist joining the Counseling Center for the 2026-2027 academic year:
Practicum Therapists
Marissa Allen, M.A.
Marissa is a fourth-year Clinical Psychology doctoral student at Spalding University.
She earned a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Boston College and a
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Georgetown College. Her clinical experience includes
working with clients navigating life transitions, anxiety and depression, substance
use, and identity-related concerns. She has also worked extensively with LGBTQ+ clients
and is passionate about providing affirming, compassionate care. Marissa approaches
therapy with warmth, curiosity, and a focus on building a genuine therapeutic relationship
where clients feel safe to be themselves and empowered to create meaningful change.
She especially enjoys working with young adults as they navigate life transitions
and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. Outside of work, Marissa can be
found reading, spending time with friends and family, drinking coffee, and cuddling
with her pit bull, Dunkin.
Jayda Branch, B.A.
Jayda is currently pursuing her Psy.D. In Clinical Psychology from Spalding University's
School of Professional Psychology. Some of Jayda's clinical areas of interest include
sports psychology, anxiety, depression, trauma, and racial identity/cultural formulation.
Jayda has a strong passion for working with marginalized identities, providing culturally
responsive and collaborative care, and creating and safe space for anyone who walks
into her office. Outside of her professional work, Jayda enjoys playing volleyball,
roller skating, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family. A fun
fact about Jayda is that she is a retired collegiate athlete!
David Davis, M.S.
David is returning to the Swope Counseling Center and will be working with our student
athletes. He is pursuing his Psy.D. from Spalding University's School of Professional
Psychology. More information to come!
Kaitlyn Dodson, M.S.
Kaitlyn is currently pursuing her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at Spalding University’s
School of Professional Psychology. Some of Kaitlyn’s clinical areas of interest include
anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma-related concerns. Kaitlyn is passionate about
providing collaborative, person-centered care and creating a nonjudgmental, supportive
space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered. She also has an interest
in psychological assessment and enjoys helping clients gain a better understanding
of themselves and their experiences. Outside of her professional work, Kaitlyn enjoys
traveling, baking, hiking, watching her favorite gaming streamers, and spending time
with friends.
Keerthi Narasimhan, M.A.
Keerthi is a doctoral candidate in the Clinical Psychology Psy.D. program at Spalding
University. Keerthi obtained her Bachelor’s in Psychology and Human Development and
Family Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Master’s
in Clinical Psychology from Spalding University. Keerthi has experience working in
ABA therapy, private practice, K-12 school settings, and crisis centers. Her clinical
interests include multiculturalism, anxiety, mood disorders, and identity development/exploration.
Outside of clinical work, Keerthi enjoys cooking, baking, diamond painting, window
shopping, binge-watching TV shows, and spending time with family!
Julia Ossipova, M.C.
Julia is a fourth-year counseling psychology doctoral student at the University of Louisville.
She moved to Louisville from Canada where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with
a major in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Counseling
degree from Athabasca University. Throughout her 14 years in the mental health field, Julia had opportunities to work with a wide range of populations, from youth experiencing
homelessness and addictions to victims of violent crimes, to people afflicted with
severe psychiatric disorders, as well as to join various group practices and help
individuals, couples, and families address a variety of life challenges and improve
their mental health and relationships. She often uses elements of cognitive-behavioral
and narrative therapy to help her clients move towards meaningful changes in supportive,
collaborative, empowering, and creative ways. Outside of work, Julia loves reading science fiction books, watching movies, going on walks and exploring
new places, or simply spending time with family.
Kelly Schmidt, B.A.

Kelly is currently a second-year graduate student in Å©·òµ¼º½â€™s Master of Science in Clinical Psychology program. She joined the Swope Counseling Center in August 2026 and is passionate about providing support for those experiencing difficulties with life transitions as well as depression and anxiety. She uses a person-centered approach when working with clients to help them achieve their therapeutic goals and overall well-being. Outside of school, Kelly enjoys reading, listening to music, and spending time with her family and her dog, Glory.
GraceAnn Shaner, B.A.
GraceAnn is currently in her 2nd year of the Master's of Science in Clinical Psychology

Case Management
Simon Cozzens, MSW, Case Worker
Simon is a social worker who joined the Bellarmine Counseling Center in November of
2024. A Louisville native from Okolona, Simon developed a life-long passion for human
behavior and social sustainability. He earned a BA in Cognitive Science from Yale
University in 2013 and a master's degree in social work from the Brown School at Washington
University in St. Louis in 2021. He concentrated in mental health and specialized
in System Dynamics. His work included facilitating workshops and modeling at the Social
System Design Lab at WashU, as well as at Project ARK where he served Black and Brown
youth whose lives are impacted by HIV. Since graduating, his work has focused on the
success of low-income, under-resourced, and/or homeless middle-schoolers. This includes
a role as Director of Data and Communications at Aim High St. Louis.
Simon has an ever-expanding set of interests and hobbies, which currently include bowling, volleyball, dancing, games of all kinds, gardening, cooking, and managing fantasy leagues for Survivor and RuPaul's Drag Race.
Rachel Herrin, B.A., Social Work Practicum Student
Rachel is currently pursuing her Master of Social Work from the University of Kentucky's
College of Social Work. Rachel completed a Bachelor of Arts in History at the University
of Kentucky where she maintained a focus on the Southern United States. With this
specialization, she was able to recognize systemic injustices with historical context
and shift her focus to social work when pursuing her graduate degree to better reach
those in need of support. Rachel is excited to explore what social work looks like
in a colligate setting and better understand how her skills and knowledge will be
used to assist others. Outside of social work, Rachel enjoys crafting, reading, and
spending time with loved ones.
Peer Mental Health Advocate Interns
The Å©·òµ¼º½ Counseling Center has an undergraduate internship program. The Peer Mental Health Advocate Interns will develop and provide programming related to mental health topics and will help with existing mental health events. The Peer Mental Health Advocate Interns will also be available for peer support consultations. We currently have twi students serving in this role for the fall semester.
Leona Linville Leona is a senior at Å©·òµ¼º½ majoring in Psychology. Her academic and
career plans are to graduate with her bachelor's degree this spring and take a gap
year to gain experience in the field before going back to school to obtain a master's
in counseling. She has a passion for mental health education and hopes to raise awareness
of various mental health topics over the course of her internship. Outside of her
role as a Peer Mental Health Advocate, she can be found mentoring with the Pioneer
Scholars Program, the Arts, Media, & Entertainment Learning Community, peer coaching
for Knight 101, and promoting overall wellness on campus as a Peer Wellness Educator.
In her free time, Leona enjoys going for long walks, listening to music, taking pictures
of the moon, and spending time with friends and family. |
Julvany Maludi
|

Julvany Maludi is a senior at Å©·òµ¼º½ majoring in Psychology. She plans
to graduate with her bachelor's degree and apply to a master's program. Julvany wants
to focus on Marriage and Family Therapy, specifically working with children and couples
in the future. She's very passionate about working with children experiencing mental
health challenges and struggling families. Outside of her role as a Peer Mental Health
Advocate, she serves as a resident life assistant in the first-year hall. She's also
the president of the African Student Association and Vice-President for the Bellarmine
Activity Council. In addition to being a Pioneer Scholar mentor and SGA senior representative.
In her free time, she loves going to the gym with her friends, watching anime, and
listening to K-pop.
